Privacy policy

Formative Years (“we”, “us”) is a Toronto-based parenting education business. This policy explains what personal information this website collects, why, and what your rights are under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Ontario law.

What we collect

Contact form. If you write to us through the contact page, we receive the name, email address and message you enter. They are delivered to our inbox by our email delivery provider (Resend) and used only to reply.

Notes from Freshteh. If you leave your email address, we send a welcome note to that address and keep a record of the address, the page you signed up from, any campaign tags on the link, the consent line you saw, the time, and the IP address it came from. The address is also added to our mailing list at our email provider (Resend). We use it for occasional notes from Freshteh, including when the guide changes. Every note carries a one-click unsubscribe link; you can also write to support@formativeyears.ca.

Purchases. Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Stripe sends us your name, email address, the amount paid and an order reference so we can deliver the guide (a signed download link that expires) and answer questions about your order; we keep that order record, with the page and campaign the purchase came from, and add your address to the mailing list, which you can leave at any time. Stripe’s own privacy policy applies to the payment itself.

Technical logs. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, records standard request information such as IP address, browser type, pages requested and timestamps in order to serve the site securely and reliably.

Campaign tags. Ad links may carry campaign tags (utm parameters) and an ad platform’s click reference. Your browser keeps them for the visit (and for 30 days if you say yes to cookies), and we record them with a signup or a purchase to see which ad it came from. If you dismiss the email popup, that choice is kept in your browser only and never sent to us.

Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to see which pages and ads bring parents to the guide: pages viewed, the guide’s page, a signup, the start of a checkout, and a completed purchase with its order reference and amount. We do not send Google your name, email address or card details.

We also use the Meta pixel (Meta runs Facebook and Instagram) to see which of our ads lead to a signup or a purchase, and to show our ads to people likely to find the guide useful. It reports the same steps. When you sign up or buy, our server also tells Meta, with a scrambled (hashed) copy of your email address that cannot be turned back into it, your IP address and browser type, so Meta can match the step to an ad you saw; never your name or card details.

None of these cookies are set, and nothing is sent to Meta, unless you say yes in the cookie notice; that choice is kept in your browser and can be changed at any time from the “Cookies” link in the footer. If you say no, Google receives anonymous, cookieless signals that cannot be tied to you or your device. Google and Meta process this data in the United States under their own privacy policies.

How we use information

  • To respond to messages you send us.
  • To send occasional notes from Freshteh, if you asked for them.
  • To deliver the guide you bought and to process refunds.
  • To run, secure and improve the website.
  • To meet legal obligations, including tax records.

Sharing

We do not sell or trade personal information. We share it only with the providers needed to run this site: hosting (Cloudflare), email delivery (Resend), payments (Stripe), and analytics and advertising (Google and Meta, only with your yes in the cookie notice), and only for those purposes. These providers may process data outside Canada, including in the United States.

Retention

Contact messages are kept for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and for reasonable record-keeping afterwards. Email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Purchase records are kept for as long as tax law requires.

Your rights

Under PIPEDA you may ask us what personal information we hold about you and how it is used, to see and correct it, and to withdraw consent to further use, subject to legal or contractual limits. Write to support@formativeyears.ca and we will respond within a reasonable time.

Children

This website is for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
